According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa midfielder Birkir Bjarnason is poised to leave Villa Park this January, hoping for Seria A return.
The former Basel player wants to return to Italy, where he enjoyed a fruitful spell playing for Sampdoria and Pescara.
Bjarnason arrived at Aston Villa last January from the ranks of Swiss champions and provided pretty decent performances last year, but this season he has dropped in form and consequently lost his place in the first team.
He only played nine games this campaign, scoring one goal in Championship and as a result, the 29-year-old wants to leave England apace.
Bjarnason is a combative box-to-box midfielder, able to play on the left-wing. He impressed during the 2016 European Championship with Iceland as well as his side were the biggest surprise of the tournament, eliminating England in the round of 16.
For now, there are no concrete offers for the Icelandic international, but a possible January move should not be excluded.
