West Ham manager David Moyes has said that he has no idea as to whether Chelsea are aiming to sign striker Andy Carroll during the January transfer window.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is reportedly interested in bringing the former Liverpool and Newcastle man to Stamford Bridge this month as cover for main striker Alvaro Morata with an approach having already reportedly been made.

Moyes however insists that he has no idea whether an approach has been made.

“[I have] no idea,” Moyes said. “So I can’t tell you one way or the other.”

West Ham meanwhile are one of the teams that are expected to bring in new recruits this month as they look to bolster their chances of avoiding relegation.

“We have to try to strengthen the squad,” the former Everton manager Moyes wrote in his Standard Sport column.

“Ideally, I always look to the long term but such is our position this season that we have to look short term. We need players to come and help us now.”
