As per Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias (via Sports Witness), long-term Newcastle target and Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris is Premier League-bound this month, with the Toons and West Brom both linked with a move.
The Greek international has seen his market value drop to around £9million as the Portuguese giants are eagerly looking forward to getting him off their books.
Although, Samaris has started just a league game this term, competition is bound to be stiff for the signature of the Superleague Greece winner and 3-time Primeira Liga-winning midfielder.
Having tried to no avail to land him during the summer, Newcastle have a huge chance of getting their man should they beat other suitors with a better offer this time around.
The 28-year-old is an excellent passer and tackler, and with Jonjo Shelvey’s disciplinary issue a cause of concern, Samaris could prove to be a better and more reliable option for manager Rafa Benitez.
Given his experience playing at a top side and in the Champions League, the Greek star could be the type of quality addition Newcastle need in the middle of the park as they try to navigate the murky waters of the Premier League successfully.
