Newcastle risk losing star midfielder Jonjo Shelvey to West Ham as reports claim manager David Moyes has made the 25-year-old a top target for the winter transfer window.
The Hammers are in dire need of another defensive midfielder, but after getting knocked back off majority of their targets, the Toons star is seen as a last resort.
Shelvey, an east London-born grew up supporting West Ham, played for the youth side and could be tempted to return to a club that remains dear to his heart.
The England international was signed from Swansea 2 years ago for £12million, and shouldn’t cost below the fee should the Magpies be tempted into cashing in.
Disciplinary issues have limited Shelvey’s appearances this term, but Moyes reckons he can tame that beast as he looks to exploit the aggression and passing abilities of the former Liverpool man.
Selling to another side involved in the relegation scrap could be difficult for Newcastle, but they could be tempted to let him go for the right price and if the player is willing to return home.
