Rangers reportedly identify Bruno Alves’ replacement in English football veteran

As per the Scottish Sun, Rangers have identified Norwich City defender Russell Martin as a January transfer target.

The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the English Championship club, last seeing action in August.

As a result, Martin has been cleared to leave the Canaries next month as he’s now surplus to requirements, and the Light Blues see him as a replacement for the 36-year-old Bruno Alves.

The Portugal international is open to a January exit as he wants regular football ahead of the World Cup, and Martin could prove to be the perfect man to take his place.

With more than 280 league appearances for Norwich through the top 3 English divisions, the Scotland international represents the experience Rangers need at the back.

Martin’s ability to play at right-back is also an added advantage should an Ibrox switch work out next month.

A loan deal is on the cards as he still has 2 years left on his deal at Carrow Road, hence getting his services for free for the time being is a huge plus for cash-strapped Rangers.
