Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to reports from the Sun.
Andre Gomes’ move from Valencia to Barcelona last season has not quite gone according to the plan as the Portuguese international has been forced to play a bit part role at the Camp Nou after failing to establish himself in the Catalan giants’ midfield.
This lack of opportunity has left the Portuguese international frustrated and as a result, the midfielder is already looking for a move away from Barcelona.
A transfer to England has been seen as a distinct possibility for Gomes and now according to reports from the Sun, Premier League giants Manchester United are believed to be leading the race for the 24-year-old.
If indeed the transfer does take place, Gomes will be a fantastic signing for United as he has the qualities to bring stability to the United midfield and probably become the long-term replacement for the veteran Michael Carrick
However, landing Gomes will be tough for United as there are reports of interest from other English clubs such Tottenham and Chelsea and the Red Devils will have to splash around £31million in order to stand a chance of signing the ex-Valencia star.
