This potential January transfer “goof” could do Rangers both good and bad

As per the Daily Mail, Rangers will listen to offers from suitors next month for right-back James Tavernier.

The 26-year-old, who has 18 months left on his contract, is wanted by English Championship duo Sunderland and Reading, and considering their need for funds, the Light Blues could be tempted into cashing in on their man if the price is right.

Tavernier is also keen on returning to England after a stint with Wigan Athletic from where he arrived Ibrox in 2015 for £200,000.

While letting the Englishman go could be a huge mistake for Rangers considering they only have Lee Hodson as the only reliable backup at right-back, the money made from his transfer could come handy in the recruitment of another player.

Tavernier isn’t particularly the most nonexpendable player at Ibrox, and selling him could give one of the development squad players an opportunity to make the grade into the first team.

Rangers could do with additions in other departments like midfield and attack, and deciding to sacrifice Tavernier for that greater good could be worth it in the end.

Besides, keeping a player against his wishes could be just as good as losing him.
