Liverpool boss Klopp explains how van Dijk’s arrival will affect this player

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about the future of defender Ragnar Klavan at the club following the arrival of Virgil Van Dijk.

Klavan arrived at the Reds from Augsburg in August 2016 and has struggled to receive regular playing time for the club.

He will likely slip further down the pecking order and become the clubs fourth choice centre half once Van Dijk completes his move.

Despite the Reds having completed the signing of Van Dijk, Klopp has insisted that Klavan will remain a key part of his side and that it will be key to have depth in all positions.

“He is a perfect role model for pretty much all signings. He loves being here,” Klopp said.

“He needs to be confident. He could be much more confident with his skills but we are working on that as well.

“He is in good shape at the moment. It’s very, very important for us that he is. We had Joel [Matip] and Dejan [Lovren] with one or two little [injuries] so it was very important that he could step in.”
