Newcastle boss Benitez wants to sign four players in January

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has admitted that he hopes to add at least four new players to his squad during the January transfer window.

The Spaniard said: “I want some players, but it depends. I know sometimes you have a target, but sometimes you cannot get a target.

“We just need to be sure that in three or four positions we can strengthen, and if we can bring someone who can bring us something different that we don’t have, then that’ll be positive for the team.”

The Magpies started the season in promising form but have since slumped and now look like they could be in the relegation battle.

Prior to the start of the season, Benitez did openly criticize the Magpies board for not providing him with sufficient capital to make January signings.

In addition to this, he also admitted that the squad that he has at his disposal was slightly short of the quality that is required to be competitive in the Premier League and it now looks like that is beginning to show.
