Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk was left out of the match day squad that played against Tottenham on Tuesday and this only adds to the speculation that he will be leaving the club next month.
Van Dijk was also dropped for the game against Chelsea and also left out of the match day squad last weekend when his side took on Huddersfield.
Van Dijk was a priority target of Liverpool during the summer and even handed in a transfer request to try and force through a move but in the end, the Saints refused to sell.
Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be interested in signing him in January and it is the Premier League leaders who are currently viewed as bring the frontrunners.
Liverpool will naturally be furious if they miss out on the man who could easily bolster their defence which has been struggling this season.
