Allardyce explains why he will not sign this prolific striker

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has claimed that Olivier Giroud’s wife is preventing the Frenchman from moving to the Toffees during the January transfer window.

Giroud has struggled to earn regular game time so far this season with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger opting to utilize Alexandre Lacazette as his first choice strike option.

Though the Toffees have improved since Allardyce became manager, they have struggled up front and will look to bring in support for Wayne Rooney during the January transfer window.

Giroud is experienced and a proven scorer at Premier League level so he would be a good signing for the Merseysiders.

However if Allardyce is correct, the players wife is preventing a move from happening.

“I wouldn’t have thought [Giroud would move] as he refused to come last time,” he said, referring to Everton’s ultimately unsuccessful courtship of the France international in the summer.

“As far as I know he doesn’t want to move north of Watford, well his wife doesn’t want to anyway. It’s very important to the wives, believe you me. Normally they are the bosses.”
