Sunderland reportedly plotting surprise move for prolific attacker

Sunderland could be set to make a move for out of favour Sheffield United forward Jordan Rhodes according to reports.

The Scotland international has struggled to gain regular game time for the Owls and Black Cats boss Chris Coleman is keen to add a new striker to his squad in January as he looks to help his side avoid relegation from the Championship this season.

The Owls recently sacked manager Carlos Carvalhal and the club may need to make sales in January if they are to raise funds in order to bring in new players.

Rhodes is one of the top earners at United and if the Black Cats do sign him, it will have to be on a loan deal until at least until the end of the season as they do not have the funds which will be needed for a permanent deal.
