Rafael Benitez makes a confident claim about Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez believes that his side are good enough to avoid relegation this season.

After making a promising start to the season, the Magpies have been in poor form lately and now seriously face the threat of relegation.

Benitez now believes that with January reinforcements, his side will be able to finish between 10th an 15th in the League.

He said: “My experience for years and years is that when you change managers, in the long term, it doesn’t change too much. Maybe in the short term but, long term, no. It normally depends on the level of your squad. If you have a good level, it is easier.”

The Toons are certainly one of the teams that will be expected to make January additions as they look to avoid the drop.

So far they have been linked with the Chelsea duo of Kenedy and David Luiz as well as Liverpool striker Danny Ings.

There have also been reports linking them with Spanish football legend Iker Casillas though it remains uncertain as to whether they would be able to afford his salary.
