Liverpool FC are looking to sign FC Basel defender Manuel Akanji in the January transfer window, according to the Independent.
Liverpool have been playing fantastic football this season but despite such fine performances, the Reds have failed to challenge for the title and are rather competing for the Champions League places.
This failure to challenge for title has been mainly due to the disparity between the attacking and defensive abilities in the Reds lineup, with the attacking players’ good work being undone by their poor defensive record.
As a result, manager Jurgen Klopp is looking for a new defender to upgrade in the position and FC Basel’s Manuel Akanji has been touted as a potential new signing.
The Basel defender will definitely fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system as the 22-year-old has shown great understanding of the game and also a desire to press.
At 22, Akanji is still young and can improve his already impressive skillset, turning into a star defender in the future.
