Everton star Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed that he was surprised by his former club Swansea’s decision to sack Paul Clement.

Sigurdsson played a crucial role for the Swans under Clement last term and helped the club avoid relegation.

His impressive performances earned him a move to Everton during the summer.

Clement was sacked on Wednesday following the club’s 3-1 defeat against Everton on Monday in which Sigurdsson scored against his former club.

Sigurdsson has now claimed that he is surprised by Clement’s sacking by saying, “They definitely had the right man in Paul Clement. He is a top, top manager. I’m really surprised they let him go.

“He is a fantastic coach and a fantastic manager. He is organised, speaks to you man-to-man. His training sessions are good, he’s tactically aware of everything.

“He makes you feel good and, as a player, you want to play for that kind of manager. It is difficult when you are in that position. But anything is possible. You just keep going.”

Sigurdsson and Everton meanwhile have undergone a resurgence under Sam Allardyce and the club claimed a creditable 0-0 draw against third place Chelsea on Saturday to continue their unbeaten run under Big Sam.
