Carragher defends Mignolet due to this reason

Jamie Carragher has said that goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is not to blame for Liverpool’s defensive problems.

Liverpool looked to be headed to a convincing win over Arsenal on Friday night as they led the game 2-0 at half-time through goals from Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah.

However defensive errors cost Liverpool and they went from leading 2-0 to trailing the Gunner 3-2 before Roberto Firmino managed to rescue a point.

Mignolet was subjected to criticism after the game for failing to keep out Granit Xhaka’s strike which was from long-range.

Carragher however feels that Klopp is to blame as he failed to sign a goalkeeper who is good enough to replace Mignolet.

“The question should be at the manager,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “He keeps picking him, he doesn’t buy anyone. He bought Karius and that hasn’t quite worked out.

“He’s not good enough so why in the summer did Liverpool not go and get a goalkeeper. It’s imperative Liverpool sign a goalkeeper. Mignolet is not early into his Liverpool career, we’re talking four or five years and it’s a long time.

“I don’t think the question should be with the goalkeeper because we don’t think he’s good enough.  It’s now a question of the manager and why he hasn’t addressed that.”
