Leeds reportedly plotting move for Championship-winning midfielder ahead of January

As per TeamTalk, Leeds United have joined the list of teams keen on the services of out-of-favour Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback as the January transfer window beckons.

The 28-year-old is completely out of the first-team picture at Tyneside after falling out with manager Rafa Benitez prior to the start of the campaign, and has had to play for the under-23’s since.

Sunderland, Derby, Bristol City and Reading are all interested in recruiting the experience of Colback after he played a huge role in helping Newcastle win the Championship last term.

The Whites are currently marginally outside the playoffs places and are keen to start the second half of the campaign on the brightest of notes as their promotion ambition continues.

While Colback would make a fine addition, his reported £40,000-per-week wages could be a hurdle.

Furthermore, the department appears to be well-stocked already at Elland Road, with the likes of Mateusz Klich and Vurnon Anita even struggling for game time.

Leeds could do with another striker and fullback in January, and are most likely to pursue a deal for one as opposed to signing a defensive midfielder.
