Double January transfer swoop could spell the end of 26-year-old at Celtic

Celtic vs Hearts

Celtic are keen on strengthening their rearguard when the transfer window opens next month, and have got plans to bring RB Leipzig’s Marvin Compper and Dundee’s Jack Hendry to Parkhead.

A £1million deal should soon be wrapped up for the 32-year-old German, while the Hoops did scout the 22-year-old Scot again on Saturday.

Completing either or both deals could spell the end of Erik Sviatchenko’s Celtic career, with his chances of playing certain to even get slimmer.

Since returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines last month, the 26-year-old is yet to make his maiden appearance of the campaign.

Both FC Copenhagen and Besiktas had deals to land Sviatchenko knocked back during the summer, but it can be expected that offers will be considered next month with a couple of English Championship sides also keen.

The Danish is already behind Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic and Nir Bitton in the selection order, and the imminent arrival(s) of Compper and/or Hendry will all but confirm the end for him at Celtic.
