Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has admitted that he was wrong to leave out Gabriel Agbonlahor and Scott Hogan from the starting line up during his sides 2-0 defeat against Derby County this weekend.
The Villains went into the game on the back of a five match unbeaten run, however they were consigned to defeat as goals from Andi Weimann and Johnny Russell gave the Rams a 2-0 victory.
Despite having Agbonlahor and Hogan available, Bruce opted to use attacking midfielder Josh Onomah to lead the line on the day and this probably cost his side as Onomah is inexperienced and was played out of position.
Bruce has since admitted that he probably made the wrong decision on the day.
“In hindsight you could say maybe I should have started one of them but I decided to go the way we did,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.
“Formations, systems, all the rest of it, I expected it to be better. You can have as many strikers on the pitch but if you keep making individual errors, like we did in the first half, it makes little difference.”
