Celtic have handed a huge boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper, with the German recently in Scotland for talks.
This is coming barely days after manager Brendan Rodgers’ transfer plans appear to have taken a hit due to comments from Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl that Compper wouldn’t be leaving until summer.
In his words: “It’s a squad game and we need them all, especially as we have had a lot of injuries recently.
“Also, Marvin has never come to me and said he’s unhappy or put in a transfer request.
“So he will be here until the summer at least.”
However, it appears the Bundesliga outfit have finally agreed to let the 32-year-old go as their manager has made a u-turn on the decision.
Compper is set to be Celtic’s first signing next month as he has already been shown around the club facilities, with details pertaining to finalizing his contract now being worked on.
A £900,000 transfer fee is said to have been agreed on by all parties involved, and it’s safe to say a deal has been sealed.
Another centre-back had been top of Rodgers’ wishlist after one wasn’t signed during the summer, and the one-time capped Germany international comes across as a great signing given his years of topflight experience
