Watford manager Silva denies claims regarding Everton links affecting his side

Watford manager Marco Silva has denied that Everton’s attempts to recruit him have had an effect on his club’s form.

The Hornets enjoyed a good start to the season and as a result of this, Everton were interested in making Silva their new manager after they parted ways with Ronald Koeman.

Watford rejected their rivals advances and in the end Everton had to settle for veteran manager Sam Allardyce. Watford have had a decline in form recently and have lost six of their past nine games.

They also lost 2-1 against strugglers Crystal Palace this weekend after having led the game till the 89th minute.

Silva said: “It’s easy to understand if you look at the table, ‘Okay they lost, they won, they drew’, if you look only for the results.

“But you need to understand how the team plays, how the team competes. I’m sure you didn’t see all of the matches.

“If you want to only look for the last match: for me it’s the whole season not one match. Our position: we are within our goal. You can win, draw or lose, that’s normal.

“We take the risks to win every game, that’s our philosophy. If somebody paid attention, it’s easy to understand.”
