Leeds United loanee Marcus Antonsson has suddenly come to life on loan at League One side Blackburn, scoring 5 goals in as many games last month to take his tally to 8 goals in 20 games.
The 26-year-old Swede emerged PFA’s League One player-of-the-month as a result, and has caught the attention of his country ahead of the World Cup, and that of his parent club ahead of the second half of the season in the process.
However, despite having the option of recalling Antonsson, the Elland Road outfit are opting not to, even though they could do with his goals in their attack as they pursue promotion.
Leeds reckon remaining at Ewood Park and getting motivated with the mission of helping the side back to the Championship could do the revived striker a lot of good.
Having found it difficult to establish himself as an option in Leeds’ sole-striker system, Antonsson has excelled in Rovers’ 2-man striking system and is enjoying playing wide.
It’s perhaps best for him to continue there and return ahead of next term to prove himself during the pre-season.
Better still, Leeds can decide to cash in on him during the summer as Blackburn will be likely willing to buy a striker that seems better suited to their style of play than Leeds’.
