Leeds United and Newcastle have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill, as the club are targeting Everton youngster Liam Walsh as his replacement.
The England youth international is currently on loan at Birmingham City, but Bristol are planning a £1million swoop in January, and his arrival could pave the way for Brownhill’s exit.
The 21-year-old has attracted plenty of suitors due to his splendid performances that have yielded 3 league goals and assists apiece thus far this term, and the Robins are willing to cash in for the right price.
While the Toons have a chance, the Whites might not be as lucky as Bristol could hesitate selling Brownhill to a promotion rival.
Nevertheless, his quality will come handy at Elland Road, as he can be an upgrade on Leeds defensive midfielder Eunan O’Kane.
Newcastle are also in need of reinforcements in deep midfield, with Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden surprisingly struggling to get to grips with topflight football.
Whichever side eventually land Brownhill can be rest assured they have laid hands on a top player with plenty of potential, and it promises to be a tough battle between suitors for his signature next month.
