Is ex-Chelsea man the missing-piece to help Everton to strong EPL finish?

Everton have surged back to life under manager Sam Allardyce, but getting things right at the back remains priority for the English boss.

To that effect, the Merseysiders are planning a swoop on Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt ahead of the January transfer window.

With Leighton Baines injured, Allardyce has had to deploy Cuco Martina, primarily a right-back to play in the position, but he’s convinced van Aanholt can be an upgrade on the duo.

Everton have leaked 29 Premier League and 15 Europa League goals this term, and the brilliant Dutch ball interceptor could help strengthen their rearguard.

Van Aanholt, formerly of Chelsea and Sunderland enjoys working with Allardyce having helped the veteran manager escape relegation in his last 2 jobs.

The 27-year-old can also help out in attack, with his dribbling and crossing skills akin to that of a winger.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson doesn’t see Van Aanholt as a huge part of his plans and will likely cash in next month if the right price is offered.

Everton can finish in top 8 should they have a better end to the campaign, and the Netherlands international seems like the ideal signing they could do with.
