Newcastle are said to be keen on returning for the services of Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi next month after seeing a summer move fall through.
The Belgian international started just a Premier League game last season despite a £32million summer switch from Marseille, but lack of striking options saw the Blues go against the Toons’ offer to take him on a season-long loan.
However, lack of playing opportunities again this term could, and should, force Batshuayi into demanding to leave Stamford Bridge in January.
Just as the case was last term, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte opted to deploy winger Eden Hazard as a striker in the absence of his first option during the week.
The wideman played upfront during the 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town, with Batshuayi only coming on when the game was already sealed – 20 minutes from time.
The 24-year-old clearly won’t be getting more chances than he already gets under the Italian tactician, but he definitely would have made more than 2 league starts and 6 substitute appearances were he to be at Saint James’ Park.
Newcastle stumbled to their 10th loss of the season on Wednesday night, and are badly in need of a proven finisher like Batshuayi to change their dwindling fortunes.
The young Belgian’s career is on the line, but a move to Tyneside in January could help save him and the club.
