This Tuesday, seven different Colombians had playing time across Europe and in the Club World Cup. All of these games were in cup competitions and the performances varied as two players scored, while others failed to make much of an impact, here is a rundown of how these seven players did.
Oscar Murillo
Murillo played all 120 minutes in Pachuca’s extra-time 1-0 loss against Gremio in the semifinals of the Club World Cup. The game itself was very poor but Murillo’s performance was very decent, not as good as in Pachuca’s game against Wydad Casablanca but still very solid. Los Tuzos and the 29-year-old centre-back will now focus on the Liga MX Clausura 2018, which starts on January 6th for Pachuca.
Deiver Machado
The young fullback played 63 minutes in Gent’s disappointing 4-1 loss against Kortrijk in the quarterfinals of the Belgium Cup. Machado has not received much playing time this season as his team is currently fourth in the Belgian First Divison.
Cristian Montaño
The 26-year-old forward had been on a hot streak for English League Two side Port Vale, scoring three goals in the teams previous two games. That hot streak came to an abrupt end this Tuesday as Montaño received a red card at the end of the first half in Port Vale’s FA Cup second round match against Yeovil Town. The red card did end up affecting the team as Port Vale fell 3-2 in dramatic fashion as the game was decided in extra time.
Turkish Cup
Three Cafeteros featured in the fifth round action of the Turkish Cup as Michael Rangel played all 90 Minutes in Kasimpasa’s 4-1 loss to Boluspor. Hugo Rodallega and Fabian Castillo were key in Trabzonspor’s 5-1 win against BB Erzurumspor. Rodallega had two goals and an assist in this game and Fabian Castillo also netted himself an assist as both players played all 90 minutes. Trabzonspor will advance to the next round of the cup competition but Rangel and Kasimpasa are now knocked out.
Radamel Falcao
The most notable performance from this Tuesday came from one of the best strikers that Colombia has been graced with, Radamel Falcao. “El Tigre” was coming off an unimpressive performance over the weekend for Monaco in the Ligue 1 but shined this Tuesday in the Coupe de la Ligue. The Monaco captain did not start the game but came on for the Argentine forward Guido Carillo in the 76th minute of the match. Falcao worked his magic and scored an absolute wonder goal from about the middle of the pitch that secured the principality side’s 2-0 win against Caen in this round of 16 match in the cup competition.
