West Ham will shoot themselves in the foot if they sanction £6million January deal

As per reports, West Ham are looking to sanction a £6million deal that will see centre-back Reece Oxford join Borussia Monchengladbach on a permanent basis next month.

The 18-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at the Bundesliga side, and only started a game for the first time on Tuesday night having earlier seen action for just a minute.

It’s been a slow start to life in Germany for the England youth international and West Ham youth product.

Nevertheless, Monchengladbach have identified Oxford’s potential and are willing to sign him permanently – a grave mistake the Hammers mustn’t allow to happen.

Looking beyond the cut-price £6million that the club could lose the ball-playing and versatile defender for, Oxford remains a hugely talented youngster that could end up becoming one of the best centre-backs in the game going forward.

He is the type of player that can help West Ham break into top 4 or become a mainstay in top 6 in the near future, and the club must show ambition by holding on to such gems.

Getting pressured to selling him right now will be passing the wrong message and sending the wrong signals.

Should selling him eventually become inevitable in few years to come, he has all it takes to become the most expensive English defender, and there should be no need and reason for West Ham to rush into making a decision they will regret down the line.
