Celtic boss Rodgers reportedly identify record-setting Bundesliga veteran as top January target

Celtic vs Hearts

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic will attempt to lure RB Leipzig centre-back Marvin Compper to Parkhead when the transfer window opens next month.

The 32-year-old one-capped Germany internationalist has seen very limited playing minutes this term, starting just a Bundesliga game and coming off the bench once.

As a result, Compper wants to leave in January and manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to swoop.

The Hoops boss has reiterated since August that a new centre-back is top of his agenda for the winter window having failed to strengthen the position in summer, and the Leipzig man could prove to be a great addition.

Compper has 11 years experience playing topflight football, and did set a record back in 2008 as he became the first Hoffenheim player to be capped by Germany.

With Europa League football starting in February, the defender could come handy as a backup or even a short-term upgrade on the error-prone Dedryck Boyata.
