As per the Mirror, Everton are preparing a £60million bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of the January transfer window.
Should they manage to land the unsettled Gabonese, their top 6 finish mission can still be achieved.
The 10th-placed Toffees are only 7 points off their desired finishing spot heading into 2017-18, and they could have been much closer had they gotten the perfect Romelu Lukaku replacement.
In the proven Aubameyang, that dream is still within reach going into the second half of the season.
The 28-year-old is at his peak of his powers, bagging 19 goals in 20 appearances for the Signal Iduna Park outfit this term, and taking his overall goal tally to 139 in 209 games.
He has lots of experience at continental level, and while a drop to the Europa League might not interest him, Aubameyang has all it takes to fire Everton to a top 4 finish next season if he’s signed in January.
One could even argue he’s an upgrade on Lukaku, with some of the top sides on the continent keen on his signature, and if Everton somehow manage to pull off a big trick by signing him, not many will bet against them finishing in top 6 at the end of this season.
