Newcastle United star wants to return to former club in January

According to reports from Belgium, Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic would be keen on rejoining Anderlecht during the January transfer window. The Serbian joined the Magpies from the Belgian giants in 2015 for a fee of £13 million.

However he has since fallen down the pecking order under manager Rafa Benitez and Newcastle are reportedly willing to let the player leave the club on loan in January provided that the deal includes an option to buy.

Mitrovic is struggling to gain regular game time this season and he will know that things will need to change if he wants to make the Serbian squad that will play in the World Cup in Russia next year.

Mitrovic is adored by Anderlecht fans and netted 44 goals in two seasons for the club, helping them to the League title during his first season before ending off as the League’s top scorer during his second.
