Rangers top January transfer plan dealt huge blow by Portuguese boss

Rangers January transfer plans have taken a big hit as Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has blocked any attempt for Scott McTominay to leave Old Trafford in January.

The Light Blues were keen on having the 20-year-old midfielder on loan till the end of the campaign in order to bolster their ranks in the middle of the park, but they will now have to turn elsewhere for that additional quality hand they crave for.

Rangers spent over £10million during the summer transfer window recruiting 11 players, but it hasn’t proven enough in their pursuit of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

McTominay was also on the radar of some English Championship teams, with his lack of first team football seen as an opportunity to lure him away.

However, Mourinho holds the Scottish youth internationalist in high regards, with plans to feature him a lot in cup competitions on the cards.

Without a doubt, McTominay’s quality would have helped add depth to the Rangers squad were they able to land him.

Back to back victories against Aberdeen have seen the Ibrox outfit shoot up to 2nd on the log, and good business in January can help them hold on to the position until May.
