New West Brom manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he tried to sign Baggies skipper Jonny Evans while he was manager of Newcastle United.
Pardew was appointed as the new manager of the Baggies recently after Tony Pulis was sacked following the club’s poor form off late. Pardew is a fan of captain Evans and tried to sign him for the Magpies.
However Evans, who was then on the books of Manchester United stayed put at Old Trafford. Evans has been impressive for West Brom was linked with a move to Manchester City during the summer transfer window.
Pardew said, “There was a spell at Newcastle where I looked at Jonny for a while. He will certainly stay as captain. He’s a terrific player and somebody I would like to keep here way past the window.”
