Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is hoping that he can carry the feel good factor from Senegal’s World Cup qualification achievement towards helping his struggling club revive their season.
The Lions of Teranga recently defeated South Africa to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 2002.
The Toffees have been struggling this season both in the Premier League as well as in the Europa League.
Gueye was largely praised for his performances for the Toffees last season as the went on to finish the season in 7th position and he even managed to earn himself comparisons to Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.
He is now hoping to bring in the positivity from his national team to his club saying, “It was good to have these feelings. And I can bring that positivity to this club and help this team.
“Of course I remember 2002. I was living in my village and whenever Senegal scored everyone was going out and shouting – putting music on after the game. So we cannot forget this moment.
“It was the first time Senegal was in the World Cup so I can’t forget it. It was the greatest moment we have had in football. Very proud.”
