Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has insisted that he is willing to remain at the club even if a takeover bid fails.
Benitez is known to have a strained relationship with current Magpies owner Mike Ashley.
Benitez has in the past publically criticized the club’s board for failing to back him sufficiently in the transfer market and this has led to speculation that he could quit in the near future.
Ashley recently put up the club for sale and is currently in negotiations with Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners, a Middle Eastern and Chinese investment funds.
The Spaniard however has insisted that he will remain boss even if a takeover fails.
When asked if he would remain boss if a takeover fails, he said: “I think so. I’m happy with this group of players, they’re improving, they’re learning. Was I disappointed after the lack of investment in the summer? Yes, but this is still a challenge for me.”
