Football pundit Paul Merson has blasted West Ham’s Angelo Ogbonna for the error that he committed during the Hammers 1-1 draw against Leicester on Friday.
The East London club earned their first points under new manager David Moyes after the game and in the process, also ended a run of two straight defeats.
Claude Puel’s managed to take the lead early on through Marc Albrighton following a mistake form Ogbonna.
The Italian completely missed a cross from Jamie Vardy and Albrighton went on to pounce to beat Joe Hart in goal and give his side the lead.
Merson was dismayed at what he saw from Ogbonna and said: “Wow. That is a professional footballer that is. No it is, that’s a professional footballer. I mean, how do you miss the ball completely like that? I can’t, it’s bad isn’t it.”
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson was also unimpressed by the Hammers defending and slammed Pablo Zabaleta, “Just look at that were the back four is, they’re all over the place.
“Nobody is sensing it, (Pablo) Zabaleta you see where he ends up. It’s just absolutely amazing how experienced players can be so far out of position.
“It ended up having just two at the back and somehow Zabaleta was drawn inside. They were so nervous in that first half and that’s when Leicester should have taken advantage.”
