Liverpool legend Kuyt says this player will suit the Reds well

Former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt has said that Virgil Van Dijk would suit the Reds well.

“I know Virgil. I didn’t play with him in the national team but he’s a great player,” Kuyt, who retired from football in May, said. “We’ll see how things will go in the winter break or at the end of the season.

“I don’t think it’s strange for me to say he is a player who will suit Liverpool very well. He has the right mentality and he is a great defender.

The Dutch international Van Dijk was a priority target of the Reds during the summer transfer window and they made a number of approaches for him, all of which were rejected by the Saints, who insisted that they would not sell.

Transfer negotiations were complicated by the fact that Jurgen Klopp’s side were found guilty of having tapped up Van Dijk and had to issue an apology.

Though Liverpool are currently on a good run of form, their defence has been sloppy at times and they have conceded 17 goals from 12 games in the League which is disappointing from a team that wishes to challenge for silverware.
