Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said that his side defended like children against Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side led the game 3-0 at half-time and looked as if they were headed for a comfortable win. However they conceded three goals during the second half and the game ended in a draw.
A win would have ensured that they advanced to the last 16 as group winners. They will now need to either win or draw against Spartak Moscow in two weeks in order to book their place in the last 16.
Carragher said of the second half collapse, “I’d like to swear when I see that second half. The big question going into this game was whether Liverpool’s defence could cope with the atmosphere of Sevilla.
“I felt before the game the answer would be no, but I didn’t think it would be as bad as this, especially in the second half.
“I didn’t see Liverpool keeping a clean sheet but to be 3-0 up and to see how Liverpool gave the goals away and the actual game intelligence – it was like watching children play.”
Liverpool have been promising in attack this season but their defence has cost them dearly.
