Celtic can win their first silverware of the season with victory over Motherwell in the League Cup final on Sunday.
However, successfully defending the trophy won’t come easy as Well striker Louis Moult is hoping to keep to a promise.
The Englishman has promised club doctor Mark Bonnes the Cup, having been inspired by a souvenir picture of the club’s last Scottish Cup win open-top bus celebrations hanging on his office wall.
The Sunderland youth product has been in great form in front of goal this term, scoring 8 league goals and contributing 3 out of 5 as Motherwell dumped Aberdeen and Rangers out in previous League Cup rounds.
Celtic have gone 64 domestic games without a loss, but Moult’s vows could inspire him into ending the streak.
The red-hot striker revealed: “I’ve heard a great deal about the 1991 Scottish Cup winning squad. The club doctor has a picture on his wall of all the Motherwell boys on the open-top bus celebrating.
“I remember saying to him last month, ‘I’ll get you another one of them’. I told him we would do our best to try to get him another picture and that’s exactly what we’re going to try and do.
“We want to become history makers both personally and as a football club. The doctor said, ‘Aye, that would be great’.”
Motherwell have more than enough morale going into Sunday’s clash having seen off the Dons at the Pittodrie Stadium with a 2-nil victory at the weekend, and with a midweek trip to France for Celtic, the underdogs also have an advantage of fresher legs.
Moult scored in the game and is arguably the most lethargic striker right now.
The Hoops will have to keep him on a short leash to have a chance of winning another domestic treble this term.
