One of the most significant signings Club America made this past transfer window was Guido Rodriguez from Club Tijuana. Miguel Herrera took the Argentine midfielder with him along with Carlos Vargas after departing the border city for his return to Mexico City.
Rodriguez was arguably one of the best players in the Liga MX Clausura 2017 tournament and one of the most vital if not the most vital players in Club Tijuana. The 23-year-old has an undeniable presence in the heart of the pitch as he was a master of recovering the ball and starting up attacks. Along with this Rodriguez had been known to have his share of disciplinary issues, which have shown in this Apertura 2017.
The young Argentine had not really been anything spectacular for Las Aguilas this season and did not seem to be the same player that helped the Xolos reach back-to-back first-place finishes. Rodriguez’s disciplinary issues had been the most notable aspect of his game seen this season as he had picked up two red cards in the Liga MX and another in the Copa MX competition.

This Sunday, the former River Plate player finally had his key moment as a member of Club America. Rodriguez led Los Azulcremas to a slim 1-0 lead with an absolute wonder goal from about 26 yards out. The South American midfielder blasted a potent strike that left Santos Laguna goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco motionless just looking at the ball go into his net.
The Argentine had these magical moments in the past with Club Tijuana but had yet to make that type of an impact on a game with Las Aguilas. Rodriguez did not only score the goal he also had a tremendous game in his midfield role with an 80-percent pass accuracy, 11 of 13 duels won, two clearances, two interceptions and a blocked shot. The Buenos Aires native was brought in by Miguel Herrera to deliver these type of performances and it will be interesting to see if he can keep this form heading into the playoffs.
