Chris Sutton has told Liverpool that they must sign Virgil van Dijk during the January transfer window.
“I think it’s essential that Liverpool strengthen in January, defensively,” said Sutton during a Match of the Day Extra Q&A session.
“It was a good, solid performance, good win yesterday. It didn’t happen in the summer. I think Virgil van Dijk wants it to happen.
“It would seem to be the sensible option. Liverpool need to strengthen defensively and they need to get that one over the line.”
The Reds are currently on a promising run of form having defeated Southampton 3-0 this weekend through a brace from Mohamed Salah and a further goal from Philippe Coutinho.
The result means that Jurgen Klopp’s men have now completed four wins in succession.
Despite the Reds showcasing promising form lately, their defending has been questionable at times and they have so far conceded 17 goals from 12 games in the League which is certainly not good from a club who hopes to challenge for trophies.
