This Wednesday, Monterrey will host Club America at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer for a semi-final match in the Apertura 2017 edition of the Copa MX. The match is set to be very exciting and should prove to be one of the best in Mexican soccer this week but Monterrey is the favorite and here are three reasons why.
1.Home-Field Advantage
Monterrey has been the best home team in the Liga MX Apertura 2017 with seven wins and one draw at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer. Los Rayados have dominated their opponents in front of the home support outscoring them 17-4. The stadium which seats over 50 thousand spectators will certainly be sold out like the last time Club America visited in week 15 of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. The home-field advantage will be huge for Los Regios and could ultimately prove to be one of the deciding factors in the outcome of this match.
2.Ambition
Head coach Antonio Mohamed has already expressed that this cup tie means more to him than the upcoming Clasico Regio against Tigres UANL on the weekend. The Argentine manager used virtually a full squad in Monterrey’s 4-1 win against Santos Laguna in the quarterfinals of the competition. Players like Rogelio Funes, Mori, Dorlan Pabon, Carlos Sanchez and Aviles Hurtado all featured in Mohamed’s starting XI for that game and will surely be present in this match. “El Turco” is desperate for any title before he plans on departing Monterrey and this Copa MX would be a great chance to obtain that championship.
3.Previous Result
Monterrey dominated Club America the last time the two teams met as Los Rayados obtained a 2-0 win against Las Aguilas in front of a home crowd in week 15 of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. La Pandilla was inclusively down a man since the 55th minute of the game and still managed to outplay its opponent. Club America has been struggling massively to create much going forward recently and will surely struggle against Antonio Mohamed’s rigid team, once again.
