Former Cardiff City striker Nathan Blake has told the Championship outfit that getting Newcastle midfielder Mohamed Diame into their squad in January can hugely boost their Premier League dreams.
The Welsh outfit are currently 3rd on the league log, just 2 points below the automatic promotion places, and Blake believes they need the experience and quality of the Senegalese powerhouse to secure a top 2 finish come May.
The ex-Wales international wrote is his weekly column for WalesOnline: “Cardiff don’t need much, they really don’t.
“What they do require is something a little unique, someone with that extra quality who can make the difference between the top two and the top six at the end of the season.
“The person who fits that bill for me is Mohamed Diame, who spends far too much of his time at the moment sitting on the bench up at Newcastle United and who must be itching to play regularly in a successful side.
“Diame, for me, is everything the Bluebirds need for the final push under Warnock.
“Strong, powerful, athletic, experienced and with the know-how of what’s required to go up from the Championship.
“He was a kingpin for Newcastle when they won the title last season, but his game time has been far more limited in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez.”
Diame also helped Hull City to the Premier League 2 campaigns ago before deciding to remain in the division when Newcastle came calling.
However, the topflight has proven too much for the 30-year-old to step to, only able to start just one game of 7 appearances.
With the Magpies bound to further bolster their midfield during the January transfer, Diame’s playing time is set to be further limited, and should Cardiff or any other side come calling for his signature, the Toons shouldn’t hesitate to cash in on the former West Ham man.
