Spain national team coach Julen Lopetegui has revealed that he called up Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno in order to see the player up close.
“Alberto Moreno? He’s a starter for Liverpool,” Lopetegui told reporters. “He’s always playing and I know him very well from youth categories.
“Now I want to see him up close. We don’t judge only on what we see in the Champions League. We see each player in their surroundings, domestic league and everything they play for.”
Moreno’s first call up in three years comes as a result of the good form which is has been in for Liverpool this season.
The left-back received intense criticism last season after failing to impress in his role as the Reds first choice left back.
His performances have however taken an improvement this season after manager Jurgen Klopp brought in Andy Robertson from Hull City during the summer in order to provide competition.
