Liverpool eyeing German international to replace Emre Can

Liverpool are interested in signing Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka as a replacement for Emre Can, who is expected to leave Anfield in the near future, according to ESPN.

Can is into the final year of his current deal at Liverpool but he looks unlikely to sign a new contract as the two sides have failed to reach an agreement despite protracted negotiations.

This has led many to speculate that Can will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires and the Reds are now already looking for players to replace the German intenrational.

There are very few players available to Liverpool who possess the same dynamism as Can but the Merseyside team are said to have identified Schalke’s Leon Goretzka as an ideal player to take over his compatriot’s role at Anfield.

Goretzka is in similar situation as Can at Schalke, with the 22-year-old entering into the final year of his contract at the German outfit and looks set to leave the Royal Blues, most likely for England.
