Newcastle reportedly keen on 21-goals-in-40-Championship-games striker ahead of January switch

As per Bleacher Report, Newcastle have registered interest in out-of-favour Liverpool striker Danny Ings, with plans to lure him to the Saint James’ Park when the January transfer window opens.

2 fatal career-threatening injuries have limited the 25-year-old to a handful of first team appearances and very few goals since he switched Turf Moor for Anfield back in 2015.

However, Magpies boss Rafa Benitez believes Ings can replicate his 2013-14 form that saw him fire Burnley to the Premier League with 21 goals.

Newcastle have struggled with goals this term despite 4 wins, averaging just a goal per game.

Summer striking arrival Joselu has scored just twice, and a couple of quality and affordable strikers are being eyed ahead of winter.

With his English football experience and Liverpool’s willingness to let him leave on loan, Ings appears the most realistic of options for the Toons.

Given his lack of form and fitness over the last months, though, the goalpoacher remains a huge risk of a signing, but it’s one Newcastle are willing to give a shot.

Should the old Ings turn up, it could be a worthy move in the end.
