Ex-Irish international Eamon Dunphy has questioned Liverpool’s decision to not pursue goalkeeper Jordan Pickford before the young keeper joined Reds’ arch rival Everton.
Liverpool are struggling in the Premier League this season and are currently performing well below their expectation of a title challenge.
One of the main reasons for Liverpool’s failures have been attributed to Reds’ poor defense and their inability to keep clean sheets.
Liverpool’s keepers, Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, have failed to provide the required solidity as the last line of defense and as a result, this uncertainty has sapped into the Reds defense – who look very unsure at the moment.
Due to aforementioned reasons many have questioned Liverpool’s decision to stick to their current pair of keepers and not sign an upgrade in the recently passed summer transfer window.
One of those critics is former Irish midfielder Eamon Dunphy, who said that Liverpool should have trailed former Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford before the young Englishman joined Everton.
He told RTE Sport: “The new goalkeeper at Everton, (Jordan) Pickford came from Sunderland for £30m. He’s outstanding and will probably go on and get capped for England. Why didn’t Liverpool buy him?”
