Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Georginio Wijnaldum has suffered an injury blow during his sides 3-0 Champions League victory against Maribor on Wednesday night.
The Dutch international twisted his ankle during the 17th minute of the game and was thereafter unable to continue.
The Reds managed to ride to a comfortable 3-0 win over the minnows on the night through goals from Mohamed Salah, Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge. Maribor however showed improvement from the 7-0 thrashing which they received during the reverse fixture.
The result leaves Liverpool on top of Group E with eight points from four games and one point above second placed Sevilla.
Klopp admitted after the game that the injury to Wijnaldum does not look good and said: “Georginio Wijnaldum got an injury but the ankle is swollen and it is not a good sign,”
It remains to be seen how long the 26 year old will be out for, however based on what Klopp has said, it is unlikely that he will feature against West Ham this weekend.
