This Tuesday, October 31, 2017 (6:00 PM Pacific) Chivas of Guadalajara will host Atlante at the Estadio Chivas for a match in the quarterfinals of the Apertura 2017 edition of the Copa MX. There is a clear favorite heading into this game but it should still prove to be an intense match as both teams are struggling in their respective leagues.
Chivas of Guadalajara has had a very poor showing in the Liga MX Apertura 2017 but is starting to turn things around. Los Rojiblancos have won their last two games and defeated hometown rivals Atlas in the round of 16 of the Copa MX to get to the quarterfinals. Chivas had a solid showing in that round of 16 match and will have key players rested and ready to go for this match.
Players like Rodolfo Pizarro, Orbelin Pineda and Eduardo Lopez were benched in Chivas’ last game to be fully-rested for this match. On paper, Matias Almeyda’s men should win this game but Atlante achieved a surprising result in the round of 16 and can pose a threat in this match.
Atlante is struggling in the Ascenso MX, currently in penultimate place but has overachieved in this Copa MX now in the quarterfinals. The team from Cancun defeated Toluca on penalties in the round of 16 and can get a result in this game.
There are not many notable players on the team, among the standouts include former Liga MX midfielder Alan Zamora, who was part of Atlante’s Apertura 2007 championship team. This will be a tough game for Los Potros but it is certainly not an unattainable task against a Chivas’ team that has been underperforming this season.
