Brendan Rodgers was rushed to hospital after being sacked by Liverpool

Celtic boss Rodgers has revealed that he was rushed to hospital over fears of a heart-attack after getting sacked by Liverpool in October 2015.

Rodgers enjoyed an impressive spell with Liverpool from 2012 to 2015, during which period the Northern Irishman narrowly missed out on guiding the Reds to the Premier League title.

During Rodgers’ time at Anfield, Liverpool enjoyed patches of good form but failed to sustain a credible title challenge on a consistent basis.

This resulted in sacking of Rodgers in the October 2015 when it became evident that Liverpool will not be challenging for trophies for another season.

While Rodgers’ departure always looked forthcoming, his actual sacking came as a shock to everyone and according to the Northern Irishman himself, he was left in shock the most due to the decision from the Liverpool board.

Speaking with BBC, Rodgers revealed that he feared to having a heart attack after receiving the news of his sacking before being rushed to hospital to get suitable treatment.

Rodgers told BBC, “I had an incident when I left Liverpool. Within a couple of weeks I went to Dubai and I lay in fear one night thinking I was having a heart attack.

“I suppose my mum’s situation maybe came over me because she died suddenly of a heart attack. I was rushed into the hospital in Dubai. I was looked after great and it was basically a reaction to the body, the tightening of everywhere in and around my chest.

“It was starting to condition itself in terms of not having that pressure, so that was something that really made me sit up and talk about resilience there.

“How to manage that and how to manage pressure and how to regulate it, so that was an item that was important for me to go and address.”
