Shearer explains why he wants Everton to appoint a British manager

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes that Everton should appoint a British manager to succeed Ronald Koeman as manager of the club and sounded out current Burnley boss Sean Dyche as an ideal replacement.

The Merseyside club parted ways on Monday with Koeman following their slow start to the season.  The clubs under 23 manager David Unsworth has taken temporary charge of the club and is currently the favorite to succeed Koeman.

However Dyche is second favorite and has gained praise for the work that he has done at Burnley during the past five years.

It remains to be seen though if Dyche will be willing to part ways with the Clarets considering that it will not be received well by fans of the club.

Shearer said: “The single biggest reason for their problems this season was that they didn’t replace Lukaku, who had everything they’re lacking. They had to try and get somebody in who could give them a focal point, and score the all important goals.

“I would love Everton to give a British manager a chance, Sean Dyche for example. He has done an absolutely magnificent job at Burnley but he won’t stay there forever and might think that he’s taken them as far as he can.”
